There was a time when I was young and crazy. I’m not that young anymore, but I’m still crazy after all these years. At that time, I needed somebody to make me go in the right direction. I was waiting for somebody who was happy to lead me feel happy, wise to teach me how to live, and charming to catch me and make me believe in the ideas that were supposed to make me change. *Simple as it sounds, these are the qualities that made my concept of a leader: In other words: attitude, knowledge and charm.
Who I was waiting for
The person I was waiting for did not have a name when I first met him. Every body called him “the old man”. The old man was a priest and a psychologist. I could say he was also an entertainer. His masses were totally different from the regular ones, and more crowded too. Why? The old man was always happy, full of energy, and just like the fast food, ready to go wherever he was needed.
About attitude, knowledge and charm
He used to talk in the church in a very unusual way: he used the words with the freshness of a kid and the wisdom of a master, reaching everyone just like that.
I could see the old man’s qualities better when my husband, who was my boyfriend at that time (12 years ago) was confused about changing religions. When his mother took him to the old man’s house, my husband started to talk about all kinds of crazy things. At the end, still smiling as usual, the old man said to him: “Listen, young man, don’t you think there is already to many problems in this world? Whatever religion you choose, God is going to be the same One. Just keep loving the Lord. He doesn’t care about religions, he only cares about love.” And my husband didn’t change religions because it didn’t make sense anymore.
The old man also created a big organization to help people with drug problems. He teaches them again about life, and when they are closed to being cured, they are ready to go back to the world.
I didn’t need help from the organization, but from the old man himself. With little intelligent talks, he brought back the smile to my face. I recovered my good mood, and I still remember his face when I used to sing in the church: he practically announced me like I was the big feature of the show.
Closing
Now I see that the old man can be a teacher, a politician, a TV moderator or a company’s president. He can be whoever playing the leader role, as long as he keeps having that great attitude, his superior knowledge and that charming personality. What I mean is, he was more than a priest. He was a natural born leader.
